DIY: TWEET TIPS

Over 1 BILLION tweets are published every week which makes it increasingly difficult for brands to catch the attention of their Twitter followers.

I’ve complied 5 basic guidelines to help you create content that will rise above the noise.

1. Know Who Your Audience Is

You want the information you share to appeal to your audience, not to you! Too much self-promoting is a bore (hint to Charlie Sheen), so keep your tweets fresh and relevant to your targeted demographic.

2. Keep It Organized

Think about it - it’s much easier to glance at a headline than it is to read a whole paragraph, so use that to your benefit and apply an attention-grabbing header with a concise follow up to get your point across.

3. Make It Interesting

Tweets that direct followers to photos, videos and other relevant links are a great way to enhance the Twitter experience and keep your followers intrigued and engaged.

4. Short & Sweet

Condensing your links with Bit.ly or Ow.ly (basic URL shorteners that help you share, track and analyze your links) is crucial in keeping your tweet clean and concise, not to mention saving you much needed room for the rest of your tweet.

5. Leave Some Room

For optimal retweeting, leave 20 characters or more of space at the end of each tweet. You’ll have a better chance of your tweet reaching others by restricting the number of characters.

In the end, you’ve only got 140 characters so make it count!  Be sure to follow us @excelamktg
